We had a fire in our home. I replaced all the nest protects but we kept the original nest thermostats. During the fire, the nest did its job and turned off the ac unit. However, now it keeps randomly turning off my ac with the emergency smoke even though none of my new nests are reporting smoke. I think something is “stuck” on my account that is reporting smoke. Can someone help? Why are my thermostats shutting off when there is no smoke being reported from my new nests? The old nests should be in the trash.

That is really interesting but certainly frustrating on your end. Especially after the fire experience you had.
I do not know the answer to this so I will escalate your post over to the Nest team for some help.
Clearing the Nest app's cache might help but I am sure the support team will be better able to sort this out for you.

Hey folks,
Thanks for letting us know about this, JillG.
Fowlerac, I want to get into the bottom of this. How many thermostats are we talking about? Are you getting notifications on your Nest app before your AC shuts down? Also, could you try resetting your thermostats then setting them up again just to ensure we'll start on a clean slate? Here's a guide: https://bit.ly/3riP5Dp

There are two thermostats (upstairs and downstairs). They both have reported "false" smoke emergency shutoffs. I do get notifications on the Nest App that the thermostat has shutoff, but nothing from my new nest protects indicates there is a problem. I can't say if the shutoff message on the app is before or after the thermostat actually reports a problem. The problem hasn't re-occurred in the past 24 hours; if I have another "false" report I will try resetting the thermostats.

Got it and sorry for the delay. I want to follow up on how everything is now. Have you encountered the same concern this past few days?

I haven't made any changes and the problem has not reoccurred. I will reset the system and respond to this forum if there are any issues.
All my best,
