Nest keeps constantly N80 error

I have an open therm boiler where the heatlink is connected in the floor above. The thermostat is in the living room on the ground floor, both are connected via cable.

Every day or so the thermostat shows an N80 error (connection issues between the thermostat and heat link).

When I try to check the connection, a wired connection is shown without errors. A few hours later the thermostat shows again N80 error saying that cannot connect wirelessly to the heatlink.

Any ideas?

Hi there! Sorry to hear that, but no worries, I'll do my best to assist you. Please try the steps below and let me know afterwards how it went:

Turn off the WiFi router.

1. Reset the Heat Link by keeping the button on it pressed for 30 seconds until the LED goes slowly pulsing blue.
2. Take the thermostat off the base and give it a restart, off the base by holding the display and the back of the thermostat pressed for 10-12 seconds. (Hamburger reset)
3. While the thermostat is restarting, do not put it back on the base yet, but instead, reset the Heat Link again just like before.
4. After the Heat Link is reset, put the thermostat back on the base when it asks you to do so on the screen.
5. Go to: Replace Heat Link (underneath the H71 error code) and enter the 6 character entry key from the Heat Link, but do not connect just yet.
6. Restart the Heat Link twice (1 restart is a 30 seconds press, until the LED goes off once).
7. Press connect on the display.

Hi, I wanted to check in. Did you see my colleague's message? Make sure to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thanks for follow-up @AlexD

I would assume that is too early to let you know if I need more assistance, as the error usually appears after a few days.

Let me come back to you with results in a few days.

Thanks!

No worries. The error can vary depending on the situation, H71 is the most common one. Keep an eye on it and let us know here if anything comes up. Me or one of my colleagues will also check in a few days.

Hi there @wiebbelling! I'm sorry o hear that this persists, could you please tell me if you have an open therm boiler?

Yes, as you can check on the first paragraph.

Thanks for the instructions.
On step 5 you mention "underneath the H71 error code", but I would assume it's just a copy and paste, because the error shown is N80 🤗

Just did, and now it shows connected wired + wirelessly to the heatlink. Let's see how the next days will be and I can report again.

Thank you.

@OannaCGand @AlexD I unfortunately have to share that I face the same issue again, after the procedure you suggested.

I could see the infamous "Your thermostat cannot control this equipment properly." message. When clicked on "Continue", it shows the error N80 again.

Curious that - as before the reset procedure - if I just click to test the connection, I receive the result "Connected wirelessly to the Heat Link" or "Connected wired and wirelessly to the Heat Link".

Everything works fine, despite that.
But it's just disappointing having those errors every time you look at your Nest.

How could we solve this annoying message popping up?

I'm really sorry, I missed that. I would recommend taking the thermostat display of the base, and do 2 or three resets in a row, exactly how it is described in my colleague's instructions. This should help dig out any glitch, but if it still persists let me know and I'll see what else can be done.

Did it. Let's see in the next days how it goes! Thanks
