Nest learned behavior - reset after HVAC replacement?

Hello everyone,

I just replaced our single stage only heating and AC system with all new 2 stage heating and AC. The system also has 2 zones with a Honeywell zone controller and 2 Nest thermostats. We had the Nest thermostats (Gen 3) since 2016, so they have been installed for 6 years with the old single stage equipment. We did not replace the Nest thermostats when the new system was installed, they were re-used. Do I need to do anything so they will "re-learn" anything regarding system efficiency, heating/cooling "profiles" (how long it takes to heat/cool an area), etc? Being we are in Michigan I can only comment on the heating so far, and everything works as it should. Stage 1 heat for both thermostats does what it should, stage 2 heat for both thermostats does what it should. I just want to ensure they are using each stage most efficiently and if there is anything I should do (remove from my account, reset, and add again?) to facilitate this or will they simple "adapt"?

Hi MxRacer965,

Thanks for posting and sorry for the delay.

If you're going to use your Nest Learning Thermostat with a different HVAC system, especially with 2 stages, you will need to factory reset your thermostat and setup so the controls will be more accurate for you new system. With that said, factory resetting your Nest Thermostat will set it back to its original state and will learn again based on how you use it with your new system.

Best,

Mel

Thanks much for the info! It seemed to be working OK, but I went ahead and reset both upstairs and downstairs Nest thermostats. I'll keep an eye on things from here.

Appreciate it!

Hey MxRacer965,

Awesome — glad to hear that your issue is fixed. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread shortly unless I can help out with anything else.

Best,
