I have been trying for some months to monitor our gas usage using the nest app. We are pensioners and are trying to keep control of the amount of gas we are going through. We are at home all day but do not have the heating on all day.
I have been trying to work out if it is more economical to use the facility to pre-heat so that the heating gets to the selected temp by a set time, or to just have it set to on/off at set times.
When using the learning mode, some nights I have found that the heating has been on during the night, one night it was on all night. It will also switch on with a note to say it will take a very long time to get to set temp at other times.
Whenever I try to get a definitive answer I just get the information that setting it to come on in order to get the set temp by a certain time saves fuel, but I am unconvinced. Has anybody been convinced that this is more economical?

Hi ramblaed,
Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay and for the trouble this may have caused you. Could you please go to your Nest Learning Thermostat Quick View Menu, then select the calendar icon? Check if you'll see any unnecessary schedule there. If yes, reset your schedule by going to your thermostat Settings > Reset > Schedule. After that, disable your thermostat Home/Away Assist and Auto Schedule.
Best,
Jenelyn

Thanks, I ended up deleting the schedule and starting again. Now it comes on at set times unless the temp falls below the temp set as the lowest I expect it to go. Seems to work quite well doing that.
Thank you for the help

Hey there,
I am glad to hear you were able to get everything working again. With that being the case, I am going to go ahead and lock the thread at this time. If you have any questions from here, please feel free to create a new post.
