Nest learning thermostat heat link dead

husseinfatal
Community Member

My heat link for my nest learning thermostat has died no lights to restart at all. Had the product 1.5 years and no recent electric or boiler work. No power cuts and all house circuits working and on as normal. Just seem to die. Have an h71 error on the thermostat itself.

Need Google to reach out to advise and help.

Hi @husseinfatal , I would be happy to try and assist you.

If you have not already make sure to check all breakers and switches, to make sure nothing has tripped. Also check and confirm the boiler has power, it should have a LED or display that turns on.

If it all looks good try and power cycle the Heat Link, if you're comfortable in doing so. Turn the power off to the Heat Link for a few minutes and then turn it back on. See if it has any reaction after when you press the button on it.

Best regards,

AlexD

Hi thanks for the reply!

Nothing has tripped and boiler is all ok working normally.

Whats the USB on the heat link for? I plugged that into a power outlet and a green light came on after a few mins.....and it conets to my thermostat - but it wont set the heating.

As soon as i remove the USB the power goes ut again and nothing.

What is the USB for?

The USB port is for the engineering team. They can check information on the Heat Link by connecting to it. While it may turn on the LED lights on the Heat Link it is not designed to power it, as it requires the high voltage from N/L to control the system.

When power cycling the Heat Link make sure the USB is not connected.

Also let us check a few more things:

1. Was it originally installed by a Nest Pro or a heating/electrical engineer?

2. When did you first notice this behavior from the thermostat?

3. Do you only have one Google Nest thermostat at the location or multiple?

Hi,

Was installed by a qualified electrician.

Its summer so i didnt notice it until yesterday when i thought about heating again - so no lidea how long its been out for.

I have one heat link - and one thermostat in a place suitable and been working with no issues
