Nest mini can bipass locked thermostat range

I have the Nest thermostat gen 3 in which I’ve set a 4 digit lock code and a allowable temperature range of 68-74 degrees.   This prevents anyone from turning up the heat past 74 by turning the thermostat dial.  However, anyone can repeatedly tell our Nest mini/Nest Home devices to “turn up the heat” or “make it warmer in here” and the thermostat can be set way above the locked range. I often find the kids will have it set to 76+.

Is there a way to prevent this?   I don’t want to have to set up voice profiles or anything.  I just want it to really lock the temperature range.

Hi ETD4815162342,

Thanks for posting and sorry for the delay.

I'd love to know more about this. Could you check if your Nest Learning Thermostat's display goes beyond the limit when you turn the dial on its display?

Keep us posted.

Best,

Mel

Hey there ETD4815162342,

Checking back in should you still have some questions here. Let us know by replying to this thread.

Hi, no the dial is locked with the passcode.  One can spin it within the range but not outside of it.

Hi ETD4815162342,

Thanks for the response. We don't have an option to lock the thermostat when using voice commands on Google Home. I understand that this feature would be helpful especially in your situation. Our team is always looking for ways to improve and we'll take this as feedback.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi, my intent is not to lock the thermostat by using voice commands via the Google Home/Nest mini devices.   The Nest thermostat is already locked.    I’m homing a simple command like “Hey Google, make it warmer” could not let the Nest thermostat exceed the locked range I’ve set and the users that try to increase the temperature by turning the Nest thermostat are held to.    Spinning the thermostat blocks the user from increasing the temperature.   However, “Hey Google, make it warmer”, is allowed to go beyond the locked temperature.    I would think the Nest thermostat would prevent this.    Oddly enough, if I say “Hey Google, set the temperature to 78 degrees”. The Nest mini or google home will tell me that is outside the locked range.

Hey there,

I just wanted to follow up to see if you still need our help. Please let us know as we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks for the help, Mel and Edward.

I would love a solution to this.   I don’t know why my response to Edward is not showing. It seems Edward may be confused on my problem. I am not trying to lock the nest thermostat through voice command. The nest thermostat is already locked and the dial cannot be turned to increase the temperature past a certain point without a pin code. However one can tell a Google home or nest mini to “make it warmer in here” and the Nest thermostat will allow the temperature to be increased above and beyond the locked range.  Oddly enough if I were to tell the Google Home/Nest mini “ set the temperature to 78“ it will tell me it is not able to be set to that temperature.  So it seems that there is some acknowledgment of the locked range between the devices but some loopholes that make it easy for anyone to set the temperature outside the range allowed.

Hi there,

Just checking in to make sure that you've seen our responses. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this in 24 hours if I won't hear back from you again. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

Are you not seeing my responses?   I’ve responded 3 times since the original post

Are you not seeing my responses?   Edward answered a question that was not asked.  My question remains unanswered. I posted further clarification to help.   Does anyone own these products and is able to see if their’s does the same?
