We are adding a new Nest thermostat replacing a very old existing Nest Thermostat. We purchased a new Nest (hardware 1.4 and software 2.2) and followed all the installation instructions. Google Home was able to connect and the thermostat is on the internet. All seems well - except no cooling mode. All we get is the heat mode.
As a test we switched the existing downstairs Nest (same exact model) with the new Nest upstairs. Switching the downstairs/upstairs Nest produced this result - the downstairs Nest on the upstairs mounting plate shows cooling mode and the air conditioning runs. Putting the new upstairs Nest on the down stairs mounting plate still does not show cooling mode, only heat mode.
Why does the new Nest not display cooling mode? Switching the downstairs Nest to upstairs mounting plate proves the wiring upstairs is correct. So it does not appear to be a wiring problem.

@Charlesaroth , did you happen to turn the nest display over look at the high density connector and make sure that none of the little bitty pins got bent, and therefore not making connectivity?
If all of the pins are straight as designed, then perhaps the unit might be defective in materials or workmanship. Since just bought the thermostat, you should seeking a warranty replacement/exchange for a replacement unit.

We contracted Nest support and they were able to resolve the issue. All they did was have me update Google Home on my phone and that fixed the problem.
Thanks for the response.
