Nest not responding

I have had my Nest Thermostat for many years without issue. Now it has stopped responding with just a small red light flashing on the device. Turning power off and then on has no effect. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hey Mrneilh,

Sorry to hear about what's going on with your thermostat. I want to take a closer look at it.

Quick question — what type of Nest thermostat is this? Also, are there any recent changes made on your HVAC system or on the actual thermostat before this started happening?

If you have a Nest Learning Thermostat or a Nest Thermostat E, a blinking red light at the top of your thermostat’s display means that the battery charge is very low but it’s being charged. I suggest to wait until the battery is charged before you use it to control your heating or cooling. You may also speed up the charging by following the steps below:

  1. Pull off the thermostat display and use the USB port on the back to charge it with a USB cable and wall charger. Depending on the model you have, it'll be either mini or micro USB.
Note: Do not use a computer USB port or other unpowered USB port for charging.
  2. The display should eventually light up with a message asking you to connect it to the base.
  3. Reconnect the display to the thermostat base. Press firmly until you hear it click into place.

Keep me posted.
