Nest noticed your furnace shuts off before 15 minutes

I'm getting the warning (basically) my furnace is short cycling and I might need to call for service on my DOWNSTAIRS Nest thermostat BUT I'm not getting that error on my upstairs thermostat. How can there be a problem with my furnace if it's only happening downstairs? Doesn't this more indicate a problem with the thermostat?

Hello Queenmama,

I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you. It appears that you're experiencing a power issue with your thermostat — let's sort this out.

To isolate:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • Which wire connections does your thermostat have on its base?
  • When did the issue start?
  • For the Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E:
    • Gather the power readouts from the thermostat settings under "Technical Info."
  • For the Nest Thermostat (2020) version:
    • Go to the equipment settings and check the power and wire information.

I'll look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Mark

I have the Nest E. The problem is intermittent... it sometimes shows the R in red (under equipment where it shows a diagram of the wiring) and sometimes not. Just tonight it's shown it in red, given me a "no power" message, given me the E-195 message and then when I pulled the face off and put it back on the R is white again (not red) and no error message. Also, I scheduled the heat to be 73 when I got home at 530. When I got home the desired temp read 73 but actual temp was 68 and the heat was not running. This was in Heat Cool mode. When I switched to Heat mode, the heat came on. This was at 6P and it's now 8:27 and just now getting to 72 degrees.

Wire connections are to Y1, G, R, W1, C

I just bought this house in June so I don't know about last year but this is the first I've been turning my heat on so the problem started end of Nov.

Power readouts: Battery 3.917 V, Voc 38.57 V, Vin 38.57 V, lin 200mA (c)

I had a google 'Nest Pro' come out and for $130.00 he pulled the plate off, said "I don't know, it looks ok. Why don't you call a furnace place? It'll only be a couple hundred for them to look at your furnace and if that's not the problem you can call me back (for another $130.00/hr)"

Sorry I took so long to respond... it seemed to be working for a while... no error messages...then I noticed that in Heat Cool mode the desired temp would be 70 or 72 and actual temp 66 or 67 when I got home from work the past 2 days. The upstairs thermostat is working fine. I have 1 HVAC with 2 zones. There is NO water in the pan under the furnace.

Hello folks,

Thanks for following up, Jake.

@Queenmama, Thanks for getting back to us, and I appreciate that you've already reached out to our Nest Pro.

I'm glad that your thermostat is no longer showing the report. But I found a helpful article with some troubleshooting steps for when your thermostat shows any message codes that might help in the future. Please let me know if that helps or if the issue still persists.

Best,

Mark
