Nest thermostat and sensor setup issues

Hi all,

I have a Nest Thermostat E that I’ve been using for several months. I purchased a temperature sensor for my upstairs bedroom, so I can get the temperature readings that I need when I’m in my room.

The thermostat work perfectly and shows up in the Google Home app (along with my other smart devices) on my iPhone.

When I try to install the Nest Temperature Sensor, it tells me I need to set it up in the Nest App and directs me to add my Thermostat. When I try to add the Thermostat to the Nest app, it sends me back to the Home app.

I can’t add the sensor through the Home app only the Nest app. The Nest app won’t let me add the Thermostat, because it’s already installed and sends me to the Home app. And around and around in circles. Super dumb and very very frustrating.

Can someone please help before I throw this thing against the wall?

Are you sure you have a Nest E and not the newer 4th gen. Both have plastic housings. The temp sensor only works with the E and Gen 3.

Oh my goodness. I didn’t even know the E was different than the 4th gen version (because it didn’t offer me that option in the setup). I can virtually guarantee I have the 4th gen as I just got it in June. And I didn’t realize it wasn’t compatible with the temp sensor either. Sigh.

Thanks for flagging this for me. How disappointing!
