Nest thermostat backwards finger sweep

Hello.  I've just installed a Nest Thermostat  GAO2081-US.  It works correctly with respect to controlling heating and cooling.   The Home app also works correctly.   However, on the thermostat, sweeping clockwise turns down the target temperature instead of turning it up.   Is there a setting that reverses the sweep control on the device?  Is this a wiring issue?  Can it be fixed without a reset?

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

It's great to hear that your Nest Thermostat is working well in terms of controlling heating and cooling and that the Google Home app is functioning correctly. Regarding the thermostat's control direction, it seems like the clockwise motion should ideally increase the target temperature, but you're experiencing the opposite.

Make sure the thermostat is connected correctly before making any settings modifications. To rule out any potential wiring problems that could be creating the control direction issue, double-check the wiring against the installation. To restart, you can try holding down the button or the ring for ten seconds until it shuts off.

If the issue persists and there's no setting to reverse the control direction, a reset might be necessary. Keep in mind that performing a reset may require you to reconfigure some settings.

I hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Edmond

I have the same issue. This occurred immediately after the initial installation. Would wiring affect control within the Nest device itself? Any other recommendations other than resetting the device?

Hello folks,

I'm chiming in to see how I can help.

Thanks for looking into this, Edmond.

@KJTPapa, I understand your concern with the thermostat control's backwards finger sweep issue. While wiring can potentially affect the control within the Nest Thermostat, it's essential to ensure that the wiring is correctly set up. Make sure all connections are secure and match the specified configuration. In addition, have you had a chance to perform a factory data reset on it?

Keep us posted.

Regards,
Mark
