Hello Nest community,
I've been using Nest Thermostats for years, and I'm generally pleased with the display, learning functionality, and iOS app. However, I've been less satisfied since Google's takeover of Nest.
One of my main concerns is the long-awaited Matter support. Despite Google being a large organization, we haven't seen a clear roadmap or timeline for this implementation. Before I consider removing my Nest Thermostats and replacing them with more modern, Matter-supported devices, I'd like to check if anyone in the community has additional information.
I've reached out to support multiple times over the past 1-2 years, but I always receive the same standard response that only the 2020 model will be supported. Does anyone here have more insights or updates on this situation?

Hi, @sanjeevgopal,
Thank you for reaching out to the community. I apologize for the delay in providing Matter support for the Nest Learning Thermostat 2nd Gen. I'm happy to provide more information.
Currently, the Matter feature is not available for the Nest Learning Thermostat 2nd generation. I cannot confirm at this time whether this feature will be added to this model in the future. However, the Nest Thermostat (2020) and Nest Learning Thermostat (4th generation) do support Matter and can be integrated with other third-party apps.
Additionally, you can refer to this article for further information: Google devices with Matter.
We appreciate your feedback regarding your request. Your concerns are being carefully considered.
Please don't hesitate to reply if you have any further questions.
Best regards,
Ana

Thanks for your response. I’m glad Google managed to get a few compatible models, but these devices are incredibly expensive to replace just for matter support.
To be honest, I’m not entirely in control of my situation here. I originally bought Nest devices before Google acquired them and prior to the acquisition, there used to be significant developments. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get some more value out of them before I decide to replace them with an Apple HomeKit-supported smart thermostat.

I'm not sure why Google doesn't add Matter support to the 2nd-generation thermostats. It would cost them nothing, and these devices have a long lifespan, unlike cellphones that get replaced every two years.
The Google Home team is really disappointing!
