Nest thermostat help please

JoeV2
Community Member

I have a nest learning thermostat. I forgot the pin number. The thermostat is currently locked. In trying to get it unlocked, I inadvertently removed the thermostat from my Nest app. Now I cannot unlock my thermostat when I try to add the thermostat to my Nest app it asked me for the entry key. I cannot get to the entry key because the thermostat is locked, I have searched YouTube and Google for answers and I cannot find any. How can I unlock my thermostat?

Hello JoeV2,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd love to help.

To recover a locked Nest Thermostat that's disconnected from Wi-Fi or the Nest app, the only option is to manually unlock it. To do this, please follow these steps:

  1. Remove the thermostat display from its base.
  2. Insert the USB cable into the USB port on the back of the thermostat display and connect it to a computer using the USB cable.
  3. Locate and open the folder or icon for the Nest device that should appear on the computer screen.

Let us know if you were able to locate the folder named "technicalinfo.PLIST" and what OS (Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS) of the computer you're using.

I'll look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Mark

I am having a problem with the wire labels. I have 2 wires, a white one and a red one on my thermostat. The red one is labeled tn1 and the white one is labeled Com. I am not sure how to progress as these labels are not listed in our instructions.
