Nest thermostat - remote control of senior's heating

I want to have a Nest 3rd Gen thermostat fitted to my mother's heating system to make life easier for her. She's 90 years old and lives alone, more-or-less independently, 2 hours away from me. I need to be able to have full control of her system remotely, but she also needs to be able to control it herself independently too. Both via apps?
Can I check with you good people on here whether my plan will work and makes sense? I understand that there's 'family' access available but can't find any details about what that entails in terms of permissions, access etc. Will this be OK?

Hello ericthelobster,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. I'd love to help.

Sharing access to your thermostat with your mother would help you both have the ability to monitor and control it. Make sure that the Nest Thermostat is completely set up in the Nest app and that you have access to it in the Google Home app.

Here's a quick link with the step-by-step instructions on how to invite members to a home and please let me know if that helps.

Best regards,

Mark

Thanks a lot, all sounds good Mark.
I've gone ahead and made the purchase; waiting for fitting now.   Hopefully I have all I need but will come back here if I have any issues!
