Nest thermostat takes 2+ hrs to cool 1-2 degrees

I'm copy/pasting the content from @AmericanDAD post on 04-14-2024.  Apparently the Nest Community closed this thread so I could not respond to the original post.

I have the exact same issue, my Nest worked great for several years with no issues. I have an infrared temperature gun and during the day the a/c pushes out hot air, around the ambient temp of the room which gets over 80 during the day. Later in the evening it's pushing out much colder air, around 68 degrees but it still takes 5 hours or more to lower the temp more than 3 degrees.

In the forum @AxelD suggested that I read the Troubleshooting article about strange heating/cooling behavior. I've tried those suggestions and I still have the problem. Can anyone help?  Here's the post from April:

Thermostat WAS great for a couple years, NOW IT TAKES 2+ HRS TO COOL a room.

Anyone have any idea how to correct this?

I reset the thermostat & reconnected it to my wi-fi/app & STILL it's not wkng properly.

My a/c heating unit is NOT the problem.

Hi, @jschmitz,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm truly sorry to hear that your thermostat is taking so long to cool a room. I understand how frustrating this must be for your daily life. I’m happy to help you and find a solution.

To effectively troubleshoot, please provide the following information:

  • What type of thermostat do you have?
  • Would you mind sharing a photo of your wiring configuration?
  • Do you have a Nest Renew subscription, or are you enrolled in the Rush Hour Rewards program?
  • Do you have a heat pump or conventional system?
  • Are you receiving any power error codes?
  • Have you experienced extremely hot weather lately?
  • Have you set up a temperature schedule for your thermostat?

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Ana

Yes on the hot weather so I called my a/c guy and he figured out something with the condenser.  It checked out fine earlier in the year but temps over 100 it couldn't keep up.
