Nest thermostat won’t stay on comfort sensor.

I’ve had my nest learning thermostat for a few years and I have had this issue since I got the sensors. I’ve seen other articles about my issue, but no resolution.
When I set the comfort sensor, it will not stay on that sensor until the next scheduled change as it says it will. It will change back to the thermostat anywhere between 30 seconds and 20 minutes after I set the comfort sensor. The only resolutions I have seen are to set it to the comfort sensor on the thermostat itself. That sounds great, but what’s the point in having it in the app if it doesn’t work?

Hello  JennyIRead,

Thank you so much for posting in this community. I’m sorry to hear your thermostat doesn’t stay on the comfort sensor. No worries, I'm happy to assist you.

To provide you with accurate troubleshooting steps, I would appreciate your assistance in answering the following questions:

  • What model of thermostat do you have? For your reference, you can use this article: How to tell which Nest thermostat you have
  • Have you taken some troubleshooting steps so far?
  • Are there any error messages?

If you have any additional details or information that might be helpful, please feel free to share them with me.

Best regards,

Daniel

I have the 2nd gen learning thermostat. Batteries in the sensor are good, the sensor is downstairs and the thermostat is at the top of the stairwell upstairs. I have rebooted the thermostat and force quit the app in case it was an app software glitch. Connection is good and it otherwise works normally with accurate temperature. The temperature difference downstairs can be 2°-4° cooler and I like to switch to the downstairs sensor in the evening.

Hey JennyIRead,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. Based on the information provided by you, let’s explore some troubleshooting options.

  • Check the software version of the thermostat. On your thermostat, go to settings, then software; if your thermostat is not up to date, you’ll see the option to update.

  • Remove the batteries of the sensor for 5 minutes.

  • Delete the Nest Sensor on the Nest app.

  • On the Nest app, select the option to add a product.

  • Select the type of product you are adding (in this case, a sensor).

  • Scan the QR code of the sensor.

  • Follow the instructions in the app to complete the setup process.

  • When the app prompts you, reconnect the battery to the sensor.

  • Make sure the polarity is correct.

  • Close the battery compartment cover.

Please let me know if these steps are helpful.

Regards,

Daniel
