My nest thermostat is locked on the screen that says “continue set up in Google nest app”. This happened after I completed a factory reset so that I could change wi fi networks. This is a nest already installed in a home I moved into. Any idea how to get this unfrozen? I’ve already removed the batteries

When you reset the thermostat to the factory default, you have to completely set it up again.
You'll need to use the Google Home App if you have the newish Google Nest Thermostat and the Nest App for the other two Nest thermostats.

Yes but I cannot even get the screen to function. It just bounces back and forth between English and Spanish versions of “continue set up in Google home app”. When I use the app, the nest is not able to connect to either Bluetooth or wifi. It appears the screen is locked up.

Hi folks,
@Patrick_Caezza, thanks for the help!
@Iflyalot, thanks for reaching out. I'd love to know more about this. What device are you using to set it up? Also, if you haven't yet, please follow the instructions on this article to set up your Google Nest Thermostat.
Thanks,
Edward

Thanks Edward,
Thats the thing. I’d scan in the QR code from the back but it would never recognize it on my Google home app. Nor would the actual nest screen change. I’m using Apple. The screen on the nest itself would never change either nor let me make any changes to it. Almost like it was locked up. This is a rental home and all I was trying to do was set it up to my new wifi network.

Hi Iflyalot,
Thanks for responding. Can you please try to press the screen of your thermostat for at least 10 seconds and see if this would make any changes?
Best,
Princess

Sure! I’ve done that and still no luck. The screen just continues with the “continue set up…l

Hi Iflyalot,
Thanks for the update. To isolate the issue, please check if the local network setting is enabled for the Google Home app on your phone. You could find this by going to your phone's Settings > Privacy > Local Network.
Thanks,
Edward

thanks Edward. This is a rental home and at this point it doesn’t appear to be an easy fix. I am setting this thermostat aside for the homeowner to deal with. Feel free to close the ticket. Thanks!

Thanks for the update, iflyalot. I was hoping we could get this resolved here for you, but I'm sure the property owner will have a few extra resources for handling things. I'll go ahead and mark this is closed, but feel free to let us know if you need anything else down the line.
Thanks,
Jeff
