Nest thermostat

Hi I need help!

So basically, I have just done a factory reset on my nest. I did not set the nest up originally, my ex did and he was the owner. After research I decided I could do a factory reset to remove him as the owner and take it over. I have just done that reset, and put in all the previous info that I wrote down before I reset it.

Opened the app and connected it to the device using the password key that it showed on the nest.

Now everything seems fine, accept when I go into family.. it still shows him as the owner!?!

Any help appreciated. Thanks

Just to add to this I just found a very similar thread and it says I need to create my own nest account and pair the nest with that. But I'm still unsure on what to do because my ex partner set me up a nest app and set me as a family member. So I already have the app installed and set up under my own Google account? How do I set up a new nest account when I seem to already have one. I'm going to add pictures to assist.

No apparently I don't know how to attach photos to this 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi Aprilm88,

Sorry to hear about the trouble with your Nest Thermostat. If it was linked to a different account, resetting the account connection should help. Here's what to do:

  1. On your Nest Thermostat, try resetting the account connection (not a factory reset).
  2. Reinstall the Nest app if you don't already have it.
  3. Create a new Nest account using a Google account that supports Nest devices.
  4. Pair the thermostat with your new Nest account.

That should do it! You can find more detailed instructions through our support department Contact Us.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Chris
