New Nest, old Honeywell thermostat wiring question

Wilbaggins
Community Member

Old HW thermostat has a yellow wire which connects to Y but then continues over to W. System is a heat pump.

So which or both (Y or W) go in compatibility checker?

When connecting to Nest does that yellow wire go to Y or W.

Other wires: red to R, white (or beige) to O, green to G

Thanks for any help,

Bill

I think that you a jumper. If that is correct just remove it and connect the rest of the wires!

Clearly a jumper but not a typical one since it's all 1 wire. So, would I connect yellow to Y or W on the Nest. I don't know which of the 2 jumped connections to eliminate and which to use.

Hard to see but the yellow wire is stripped in about a 1/2 inch wide section 3 inches from the end and connected to Y but then the end is stripped and connected to W. Since I can only connect this yellow wire to one terminal I have to pick either Y or W,  to put it another way.
