New phone out of state can I connect[control] thermostat without being near the thermostat?

I just did so  --  bought and activated a new phone Monday.  I installed the Nest app (actually transferred it over from the old phone, but I assume it would've gone the same if I'd downloaded freshly from the Play Store) and logged in.  It controls the Nest remotely, the same as on the old phone.
