New (upgraded) AC Equipment - Early ON feature comes on too early

I've had my Nest for years on a 13 SEER AC unit. Over time our AC was slowly dyeing, we even got an automated email from the nest that our AC was running too long. (coils would freeze blocking airflow due to leak in coolant)

I like the "Early-ON" feature, I have it enabled But now that we got a new 16 SEER AC unit all is working but the newer unit is WAY more efficient (not to mention working properly) the Nest still thinks it takes longer to cool the house due to the old unit taking longer I guess. It gets to the target temp as much as an hour before it's scheduled time.

There is an option to "Choose the max duration" to limit how long to "preheat" the house but an option to set the "precool" time limit, so it gets to night time temps really early.

Without turning "Early-ON" OFF will the Nest adjust over time and learn it doesn't take as long anymore?

Hey there,

Sorry for the late response, but I wanted to drop in here to help.

I understand that issues with your AC and thermostat can be confusing but I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Just wanted to double check to see if you were still needing help on this? If so, what troubleshooting steps have you tried?

Please let me know.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

Everything is work for the most part, I'm just wanting to know if it will "Learn" the new AC unit. (How long it takes to cool) so it doesn't turn ON extra early.

Hey there cwlutterloh,

Thank you for clarifying. Unfortunately I'm not sure how long it takes to "learn" the new AC unit system and to adapt. However, you can set up a temperature schedule for the thermostat so that it can stay the temperature you want when you want it.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

There is an option to limit "early on" but for heat mode only. Would be nice if this was for cool or heat.
