No hot water use History

I have had my nest thermostat for over 1 year and overall quite happy with it.  However with the increase in costs, I want to keep a very close eye on our usage.  I can see the history of the heating in  the house but have not found a way to see the hot water demand?  We have reduced our schedule to only 1 hour a day and then on demand if necessary,  but we believe the water has often not been switched on as expected (coming out cold from taps) and I need to check the history to confirm this.

Any ideas on how I can see the history on hot water demands instead of heating?

You're most welcome. I am happy to try and assist. The clicking noise indicates that the Heat Link behaves as we'd expect, it moves the internal relay with an audible click when turning on or off.

It is possible that the time is insufficient. The required time depends on the type of boiler/water tank, the capacity and how much water is used, if the hot water is drained often it may need more time to heat everything back up, so it will be different for each. Make sure to let me know how it goes with the 1 hour set time.

Do make sure that the schedule option is toggled on in the heating control settings in the Nest app, especially if you set it to be off when testing.

Thank you for your question and information provided @Craftymum . I would be happy to try and assist.

While you can see the heating history in the app there is no such history for the hot water. This is because while the hot water may be active during the set time, the temperature of the water is controlled in most cases by a thermostat on the water tank. So you may have the hot water scheduled to be on in the app but the water tank might be off if the set temperature on the tank is reached.

There are a few tests we can do to check the hot water behavior. Firstly, go with the Nest app next to the Heat Link and make sure that the hot water schedule is not on. You can select the hot water control and tap in the upper right corner to go into the settings and toggle off the first option, this will make sure to disable the schedule. Make sure to turn it back on after testing. Boost the hot water and listen for a clicking noise from the Heat Link. Then turn off the hot water boost and listen for a clicking noise again.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for such a swift response!  I have done as you suggest and heard a clicking sound with both the on and the off on the booster.

I wonder if the amount of time I am allowing for the boiler to heat the water was insufficient?  I had it set to 30 mins originally and have now increased that to 1 hour.  I didn't try a shower this morning (too busy!) but will try again tomorrow morning after it should have come on.  My intention is to reduce the gas usage with the bills being so high at the moment!  Many thanks for your help again.
