No schedule please

When I am home for the day, I do not want my thermostat to change to my “away” temp. How can I set my Google nest to stop following the schedule and just stay at the temperature I set it?

Hey folks,

We appreciate your help here, @David_K.
@JimK22, I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Please let me know if you are still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Thanks,
Mel

Yes, I need help. My Nest is not capable of holding a temp as long as there is a schedule programmed. I cannot override the schedule and simply hold a steady temp unless I remove the preset schedule. Is this correct? I hate that!

It sounds like you have Nest Thermostat E or Nest Learning Thermostat in that case. For those models, try these steps:

Disable learning for the temperature schedule

Actually, I'm not pleased with the lack of a "hold" function with my Nest model. That is a lot of money to fork out to not be 100% satisfied. It would be such a simple thing to include in the software/functions (I had it in my last programmable thermostat from Honeywell). I just want to be able to set the temp and have it stay at that setting until I decide to use the schedule again. Is there an update I could install or something?

Hi JimK22,

Thanks for getting back to us. I know how important it is for you to have a hold on the temperature that you set and we really wanted to help you with this. To confirm, what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Is it the one with a mirror screen and a touch panel on the right side or the one with a ring that you rotate?

Keep us posted.

Thanks,
Emerson

Hello there,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for the assistance, Emerson.

@JimK22, I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat isn't staying at the temperature that you set. Going over the steps here might help:

On your thermostat.

  1. Go to Settings > Home/Away Assist > Disable.
  2. Settings > Nest Sense > Auto-schedule > Disable.
  3. Settings > Reset > Schedule > Clear.
  4. Restart your thermostat to refresh.

Please let me know if that helps, or if the issue still persists.

Best regards,

Mark

Hello JimK22,

I'm checking back in. Were you able to do the steps above? I'd be glad to hear from you — I'd like to make sure everything is working.

Best regards,

Mark

Hi JimK22,

I want to check if you have seen my response posted above. Please let us know if you have any further questions; otherwise, we'll close the thread in 24 hours.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark, the instructions posted by Emerson above do not pertain to my model. I do have the Home/Away Assist disabled but I do NOT have Nest Sense. Instead I have Nest Aware and Nest Renew but neither of those have the Auto-schedule>Disable function.

I'm resigned to using the **bleep** schedule at this time and having to reset the temp manually if I stay up later than I planned or get up earlier than the schedule is set for. 😞

Hi JimK22,

Thanks for getting back to us and for trying to look for the options.

You can find the Nest Sense settings on the thermostat itself or auto-schedule on the Nest App. Check out this guide for the Nest Thermostat's settings and keep us posted on how it goes.

Best regards,

Mark

Hey there,

It's me again, and I wanted to see if you still needed help. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Mark

I don't think so, I will either make my life work without the Nest "hold a steady temp no matter what the schedule says" function or I will replace it with a system that does what I want it to do.

Hello JimK22,

I'm sorry if you have to go through this. We'd like you to have a better experience.

Clearing the schedule temperature and turning off the auto-schedule should be able to help you stay at your desired temperature and not worry about random changes. If you can't see these options in the Nest App, you can find them directly on the thermostat device itself, as I described in the step-by-step above.

Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best,

Mark

In the third (of six) posts I made in this thread, I indicated that I still want to run the thermostat with a schedule most times but I want the option to "hold" the temp and not run by the schedule if my needs change for the day. Deleting the schedule and auto functions turns my expensive Nest thermostat into an old-fashioned mercury switch from the 60's and 70's...not what I'm looking for at this time.

Hi there,

I'm sorry for the late reply, and I understand that you would still want to have the temperature schedule. If you already enabled this feature, your thermostat's priority is to follow the schedule you created and will maintain the temperature until the next schedule. If you manually adjust the temperature, it'll override the schedule and change automatically to the next temperature schedule.

To learn more about how it works, please check out this link and let us know if you have more questions.

Thanks,

Mark
