Notify of power loss?

I have a Nest thermostat (not E, not Learning) with the C wire connected and controlling a heat pump. Wifi connected and thermostat shown in Google Home app on an iPhone.  
As a test, I opened the circuit breaker to the heat pump. The Nest displays a loss of power, but the Google Home app does not. The app continues to show the Cooling on for atleast 10 minutes before my patience expired. 
I crawled through the online documentation, but I don’t see a way the user is notified of main power loss at the furnace/heat pump. 
What am I missing?
