I’m actually having multiple issues here….
I currently have a boiler system, and connected to it are 5 thermostats in their respective zones. Of those 5 zones, I currently have 2 Google Nest E thermostats, and one Nest learning thermostat. I purchased an additional 2 thermostats to complete the upgrade of the other 2. Both existing thermostats have W, R, and C wires. They work flawlessly.
I’ve disconnected the old thermostats, and connected my Nest E thermostats. It is just a plug and play application - all the wires are working fine.
The thermostats display reads “Please use the Google Home app to complete installation.” Alright. So I use my phone to connect to the thermostat. They will not connect, no matter what. I’ve disconnected all other Bluetooth devices. I’ve restarted my router. I’ve tested the wires. I’ve reinstalled the old thermostats to ensure they have power, and they do.
If I go to my phones settings, it lists the respective thermostat in it’s connected Bluetooth devices. My phone IS connected but it still pops up an error.
One time it did connect, and it told me the red and common wires were not detected, which is foolish, because in every other aspect of these wires lives, they work just fine. They have voltage according to my multi meter. When I hook the old thermostats up, they open the valve on the water line just fine. But somehow both of these thermostats have the audacity to tell me they can’t connect, and if they can, that the wires are wrong. Just to try it out I switched the R and W because I know sometimes that matters, and it didn’t make any bit of difference. How are 2 thermostats both giving the same glitch?

Hi Gobbledegook,
Thanks for posting.
To confirm, did you get a message on your Home app when setting up your Nest Thermostat E? If so, could you post a photo?
Best,
Mel
