I've got two Nest thermostats, an old learning thermostat downstairs and a new regular one upstairs. The new one is in a part of the house that doesn't get much traffic so I do not want use presence sensing to be active. I use the Home app to disable presence sensing for that thermostat but it keeps switching back on. I disable it again and it just switches back on. How do I permanently disable it?

Hi Leelou,
Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear your Nest Thermostat is not turning off the Presence Sensing, but there's no need to worry; I'm happy to assist you right now.
To disable the Presence Sensing feature, I recommend checking the settings on the Google Home app. Please follow the steps below:
Feel free to keep us posted if you have more questions.

These are the exact steps I take to turn off presence sensing. As my original post says, despite taking these steps, presence sensing keeps turning itself back on. There must be a way to permanently disable it.

I have the exact same problem for last few months. I have the original Nest Learning Thermostat in the downstairs, if there is only people upstairs for an extended period, then thermostat is setting the away mode and setting off routines I don’t want it too and house starts to get cold. I go to settings as stated and turn the presence sensing off for the thermostat, and then it turns itself back on again at some point. I only realize because, like just now, the house went into away mode while I’m home and I look at the settings again and it reset the presence setting back to on for the thermostat. I’ve turned it off several times over the last few months.

Hi Leelou,
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate your effort doing troubleshooting steps. I understand how frustrating it is that your Nest thermostat is still not working as expected.
I recommend checking if you share a home with another member of your household. Every household member has the ability to modify this phone setting at any moment.
On a different home member's phone, location sharing cannot be turned on or off.
Only one phone location can be shared at a time by each household member. Location sharing will immediately switch off for the first phone if you enable it for one and then turn it on for another.
Either the Nest app or the Home app allows you to share your phone's location, but not both at once. When you enable location access in one app and then turn it on in another, the first app's location access is automatically disabled.
Also, you can check this article to learn how to Disable presence sensing.
