Probably something is going wrong.

Hallo everyone!

Some time ago I post an Issue: my thermostat started and stopped several time during the day, more than 20 times per day.
So I posted my question to solve the situation.

Maybe something was done in the algorytm of the thermostat, but now the situation is as shown in the picture:
I set 19°C for the temperature and the thermostat remains ON more than 19°C as you can see.
I cannot understand why I have this situation and I cannot understand why is so difficult to set an HYSTERESIS in the program.

If I don't select the AUTO-PROGRAMMATION in the NEST SENSE MENU, thermostat contniue doing what he wants...
The easiest way to use the thermostat is to follow the temperature, give the opportunity to the user to set an HYSTERESIS (from 0.1 - to 1.0°C for example) then the thermostat stops the boiler at the set temperature, remain stoppet since HYSTERESIS and restarts again when TEMP SET - HYSTERESIS SET is reached.

In this situation boiler remains running more than the temperature set and I cannot understand why...

Another thing: PLEASE, make more visible the indicated temperature and the temperature set in the thermostat and in the app too...
In this way the temperature set is too approximative...

Thanks a lot and I hope that this issue could be solved.

Hey @Gioweb,

I'm sorry your thermostat seems to be behaving incorrectly. I'd like to help you out, but can you please tell me first if you've tried any troubleshooting steps and also, how long does it stay on after reaching the target temperature?

Gioweb

Many thanks AnaM for your kind reply.

I haven't tried any troubleshooting because I really don't know what to do and where to search.

By the way, I set 19°C, I don't know how long it remain switched on, but I found that it switches off when temperature is, more or less, 0,3-0,4°C greater than the set.

That's all, tell me if I need something else to do.

Many thanks again.

Thanks for the information @Gioweb.

Let me know if you have True Radiant turned on already. If you don't please enable it, this feature might help you with your issue.

Thanks for your reply

It was turned on since the very first time I configured the thermostat.

Thanks.

Could you tell me please what was the Max Duration time?

Gioweb

Sory, but I cannot understand what do you mean with "duration time".

Sorry.

When you access the "True Radiant" option, there should be a feature called "Max Duration" in there that goes from 1 to 5 hours. Please let me know for how much is yours set.

Gioweb

Ok, now I know!

It is set to 5 hours.

Hope it can help.

Thanks @george_t  for your interest.

well, yes, still waiting if anyone would help me or would suggest me something to do in order to avoid the thermostat continue running even if temperature set is reached.

By the way, thanks.

Hi @Gioweb , I would be happy to try and assist.

The thermostat does not turn off directly. As you noted it goes by a slight increment over like 0.3 degrees. The thermostat display and app only shows increments of 0.5 degrees and it will round any temperature to those values. The location where you can see the exact temperature is under Settings> Technical info> Sensors on the thermostat.

It is designed this way to prevent the system from short cycling if the temperature drops slightly more quickly. So 19 would be reached but then would drop under it soon after causing the system to turn on and off repeatedly. This is why a threshold of 0.3, 0.4 degrees needs to occur for the thermostat to react, to turn on or off.

I am sorry for any confusion caused and hope this information helps. To clarify, your thermostat is working as expected.

Sorry @AlexD but I totally disagree with you...and the reason is really easy:

When I purchased the thermostat, two years ago, it worked like a charm.
Since three months ago, thermostat stopped my boiler at the temperature set, but it started and stopped repeatedly (as you wrote...).
Now it stops my boiler at a temperature set greater than the set.

I suppose someone made an upgrade to the system and made a big wrong action and I can tell you why:
If you want to prevent the start and stop you need to set the threshold when temperature decrease and not viceversa.
In this case the consumption become BIGGER and the thermostat is not helping me with consumptions...

If I want 19°C you DON'T increase my temp 0.3 - 0.4 more that I want...
If I set 19°C you stop the boiler at 19°C and, maybe, you will restart it at 18.6-18.7°C...

But, after that, it's more or less two years that I ask the community to make some changes in the temperature rapresentation and set...
If I want 19°C, I want 19°C not "MORE OR LESS" 19°C...
THIS INCREASES THE CONSUMPTIONS...is it dufficutl to understand?

So, please, try to understand that in this case HYSTERESIS MUST be set in manual by user and temperature MUST BE REAL, not approximate.

Then, thermostat is working, but really bad...
Do you agree with me?

By the way, thanks for your patience.

Last thing: when I purchased it two years ago, it worked better than now.
It's two years I'm asking a better resolution of the temperature in the display and in the APP and nothing changed.
Resolution is really important, expecially if you have a big house:
If I want 19°C and you stop the boiler in a big house it means that boiler remain ON for a long time and it is a big consumption.
But is it really too difficult to show the effective temperatures (live temp and set temp)?!?
And it's really too difficult to include manual hysteresis?

By the way, many Thanks for your support.

Thank you for all the feedback. I do see and understand your point. Currently this is the way the thermostat is set to function and display the temperatures. It will only display it in 0.5 degree increments in both the app and on the thermostat display.

We're always looking for ways to improve both our products and services and we're always looking for feedback. Should there be any change rest assured that we'll let everyone know on our official channels.

I don't have however any information on any time frame for this as this depends on what is done by our engineering department.

Should you have any other suggestions do make sure to let us know on any of our channels.

@AlexDthanks for your time!

I want to give only my point of view:
Thermostat will only display 0.5°C increment BUT if you move slowly the ring directly in the thermostat or press the arrows in the APP, it moves less then 0,5°C but you cannot define how less or more you moved it...and it's for me an unacceptable error that can increase my consumptions.

About the hysteresis, so many words were spent, so I cannot add anything else.

Try to talk with engineering dept. because those things will add a big functionality and efficiency to the thermostat that, actually, is more or less unusable.
Actually, the only way to reduce consumptions is to use it in manual mode, looking at another manual thermostat and looking for the menu the real temperature.
In this case the thermostat does not make life easier but complicates it.

Let me know and try your best to convince engineers to move forward!!!

Many, many thanks.

Hi @Gioweb,

That's perfectly understandable and I totally get you. As my colleague mentioned above, we'll try our best and suggest this further to our engineering team so they can manage the situation. I know how important it is to keep the gas/electricity costs as low as possible and to have accuracy about the consumption. We'll mark your words and take them as a future reference in the process of improving our services.

In the meanwhile I'll recommend you to keep an eye on our official channels for updates.

Thanks a lot as well for sharing your opinion on this matter and for being so patient throughout the conversation. Please don't hesitate to let me know if there's anything else you would like to know apart from this at the moment, I'll be more than happy to continue and assist you.

Thanks,

I didn't reply because I had some trubles.

Well, thanks for your interest about my problem and thanks if you will use my informations for future improvements.

Just a simple question, to complete my post: can you show me whwew I can find the channel for official updates of the thermostat?

Thanks again.

After that the ticket can be closed.
