Reason for Nest Incompatibility

I’m trying to figure out why my current thermostat wiring is incompatible with Nest. I have a recently installed Comfort Air heat pump/AC and a Trane thermostat. It looks like all existing wires would have a place to go in the Nest. There was a jumper between X2 and W1 (and I believe that white wire should actually be in W1, but I still get incompatibility prompts even if I try inputting W1 as the wire instead of X2/E/Aux) and a jumper between R and Rc. There’s a brown wire that doesn’t appear to be attached to anything. Why isn’t it compatible?

Hello Bluebird7,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. I'd be happy to take a look at your system's compatibility with the Nest.

The Nest Thermostats don't require a jumper wire, so you will no longer need them. Based on its wiring diagram, your system is Nest Learning Thermostat compatible to support the second-stage cooling. To be sure, do you have an Emergency heater? If so, the X2 wire should be in the * terminal on the Nest Thermostat.

You can follow this setup so you have a guide:

  • Red wire > Rc terminal
  • Black wire > Y2 terminal
  • White wire > * terminal
  • Orange wire > O/B terminal
  • Yellow wire > Y1 terminal
  • Green wire > G terminal
  • Blue wire > C terminal

Let me know if you have more questions.

Regards,
Mark
