Replacement Nest Themostat and Heatlink H71 problems...Edited this as I got it working..

Ok, A 13 month old Nest thermostat failed - the Heatlink had NO lights. After a long time checking it had mains etc I phoned support and they confirmed its faulty and would send out another Thermostat. The replacement arrived quickly, its not in a retail box but refurbed, A thermostat and heatlink.

The heatlink was swapped out  and it has a blue light...and thats IT.

Neither the replacement or original thermostats can connect wirelessly to the heatlink. The heatlink can manually switch the Combi on, but nothing else, just that annoying blue light. I switched off all router connected devices and still no connection.

I connected the Thermostat backplate straight on to the backplate with T1 and T2 connections using a short length of 2 core. This connects to the thermostat and it allowed me so setup Nest App. Still no wireless connection.

I have spent the past week diagnosing faulty Google products. I dont have the time or energy to do this anymore.

I'll send the original faulty items back and try Google support again when I have the will to do this.

Have you paired the thermostat to the new heat link?

You now have a none matched pair, you now have to pair them together. You pair by using replace heat link.

Have you tried that?

A wired connection will always work, as it sees the connection between the 2 items.

Yup, that was the first thing I done.

I have tried that 30 times at least, every time fault checking all the items. Tech Info is all good, both thermostats getting good Voltage. Tried different locations all around the Heatlink.

Doesn't sound good.

Have you tried a factory reset of the thermostat?

The voltage is OK above 3.7, but Nest always ay 3.9!

The other thing, in the Tech menu, is the heat link entry key the one on the heat link box?

I would try a factory reset, but using the wired method.

Leave connected wired, and set-up the thermostat, when you get to wireless, use check again. and see what happens, use this method with your new set.

Before you start the set-up do the following, press the heat link button for 30 seconds, then release when the blue light pulses, but do this twice before you start. You want the blue light pulsing. Then take the thermsostat of the wiring connector, and squeeze the thermostat like you do a hamburger, and hold until you see the house come back on, do this twice also. Then replace on the base connector and set-up.

Worth a try

Nope, done that 30 times as well. That is all basic stuff which you initially do. I gather you have not done much break/fix at. I know you are trying to help, but I have checked all the wiring from the consumer unit to the boiler and Nest system. Router reset several times, forcing nest on to 2.5Ghz and 5 Ghz, to solve any wireless problems.

Thx for your help matey, it is appreciated, its just av checked and rechecked everything. Your solutions are very pertinent to solving the issue.

I did manage to get the Thermostat to connect to the heatlink.

I did this by quickly accessing the settings on the Thermostat and doing a complete reset. The Thermostat fired up and connected straight away. How long this will last I dont know. The thermostat is currently displaying 27 Deg C..thats a joke I hope it corrects itself.

With an H71 error code you CANNOT access the settings menu on the Themrostat. I was only able to initiate this by hardwiring the Heatlink to the Thermostat using the T1 and T2 connectors on the heatlink, to the connectors on the BASEPLATE. This allowed me to setup the app on the phone, and crucially link the heatlink to the Thermostat. It still cannot connect wirelessly.

Disconnect the T1 and T2 wires and restart the Thermostat. You now have access to the SETTINGS, and you want to go to SETTINGS - RESET - Scroll down to bottom and the last item - which initiates a reset. You turn the dial to confirm the full reset and it should go back to factory settings.

I may at some point do a how to with pics going through this procedure.

I just hope it keeps working..lol.

Basic is the best way to start with, as you will probably notice with many questions on this forum.

The process you describe, I have done dozens of times, and unless you get to the reset menu quick enough the display returns back to the H71 screen. I find that when the thermostat gets  confused, your description is the only way, and a reset is required. You are correct by saying the reset is not in the Tech menu at a H71 screen, and that has been bought up many times, still Google have not listened.

I have also come across one example, where some bright spark swapped the inside PCB with the housing from another heat link. That obviously would never link, but by using the USB port, the entry key is revealed.

Good to hear you are up and running, and you will be good now.

Hey @AdeM,

Since I haven't heard anything from you yet, I'll have to lock this thread. I'll do it in 2 days just in case you didn't see my last message and still need help.
