What kind of stupid thermostat is this that keeps turning off and you need to walk to it to wake it up.
this is the most expensive thermostat on the market, yet I cannot see the temperature when I’m sitting on my couch and I have to walk to it. This is ridiculous.
The more annoying thing is that the 4th gen one looks like a coat hanging button when the screen is off.
Google, update the software to give us the option of having the screen always on.

@shamsarshiaa, when you design a product like the nest thermostat one of things you need to be concerned with is basically battery life, canned or operational energy consumption. For this reason there has to be a system designed to handle situations where you do have a good power supply with includes a common wire or if you’re using the more advance feature, which is called the back door common wire such as Y or W wire in combination with the R wire to ensure you can handle all situations you do an energy consumption evaluation and you determine that since you have Nearfield availability in the system, you can simply turn the display off and save the energy consumption. If somebody comes near the thermostat or walks by it, the NFC detect it and turns the display back on. Your other choices, you put a Wi-Fi interface in it and you’ll allow the consumer to look at it through an app. That means you don’t have to walk over to the thermostat or be anywhere near it. You just pull up the app. Look at the thermostat and see what the current temperature is and whether not it’s in cooling mode heating mode or just sitting there happy and waiting for something.
you call the thermostat as expensive, I called the thermostat as a full featured high value thermostat that allows adaptability to many different systems to figurations to include automatic scheduling if needed, home and away feature, energy consumption evaluation, system, performance, and evaluation and reporting when a problem is detected. And many many other features are incorporated in this operating system. If you want really dumb thermostat, they could do nothing but allow you to manually walk over and turn it on and turn it off. Move the temperature up or turn the temperature down by all means go get you a dumb thermostat. But if you want a full featured , flexible, thermostat then stick with the Nest learning series thermostats.
Please do not hang your coat on the Nest thermostat 4th generation. Since you made that comment, you must own a 4th generation thermostat, congratulations.
