Stage 2 Cooling

My Nest thermostat all of a sudden changed to Stage 2 cooling and now the house is quickly heating up. I checked the wires and I do have wires in both Y1 and Y2. The fan is running but the unit is no longer cooling. How do I change this back to Stage 1 cooling?? It is over 100 degrees outside. Please help!

Hi, jenwags1,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I’m truly sorry your Nest thermostat is incorrectly switching to Stage 2 cooling, causing your home to heat up. I'm here to help you find a solution.

To efficiently troubleshoot this inconvenience, please provide the following information:

  • What type of thermostat do you have?
  • Do you have a conventional system or heat pump system?
  • When did cooling last work correctly?
  • Is this a new installation?
  • Would you mind sharing a picture of your wiring configuration?
  • Have you experienced extremely hot weather lately?
  • Are there any power error codes displayed on your thermostat?
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?

While we gather more information, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Turn off the HVAC system's power at the breaker switch.
  • Remove the wires from the thermostat, wait a couple of minutes, and then reinsert them.
  • Turn the power back on to the HVAC system.

If this temporarily resolves the issue but then returns, please let me know.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Ana
