Switching the Scheduling to On

Keith1970

Hi

I've checked a few older posts but they either don't have the answer or the posts have been closed.

Have to say this Nest is one of the most frustrating things I've come across recently. I really was hoping it was easy to use.

Here is the issue I have. I've set up scheduling.

What I don't understand if how to I switch the scheduling ON. I only have HEAT or OFF as options.

Earlier today I had the heating ON. Then i decided to switch it OFF, but when the scheduled time arrived the heating never came back on again.

I think I'm getting it but it means you have to play around with the temp settings before you switch it off and on again to reset it.

I think probably it's a misunderstanding of the terms.  OFF means just plain off.  The Nest will not pay attention to the schedule or any other commands.  If you want the Nest to run according to your schedule, turn the mode to HEAT and leave it there.  That's how to turn it "On".  When you select HEAT mode, the Nest will call for heat whenever the room temperature falls below the target temperature in your schedule, and it will stop calling for heat whenever the room temperature is at or above the target temperature in your schedule.

Here is Google's description of the Nest's modes:     https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9247301?hl=en

OK.

I think I understand how it works now. Whilst not the best system.

It would seem that to switch the scheduling Off or On you would need to either lower the thermostat to below the room norm or above it.

Without a On Off for the schedule this is the issue I have.

If I want the heating on it will stay on. The only way to switch back to the schedule is to turn the thermostat down so it's not on anyone.

Seems really silly for what is technically a very powerful piece of equipment.

Perhaps to be clear.

I'm sitting at home and want the heating on. As the schedule is set for later in the day but I find myself at home so want to warm the flat.

The HEAT is already on but of course its not on because the schedule is stopping it.

The room let's say is 16o and I want it to heat up to 20o. The only way it seems is to play with the thermostat from the previous reading.

I warm up very quickly well before it reaches 20o but want to turn the system back to the schedule. I then have to play around with the thermostat so it goes below the temp of the room so the schedule takes over.

Today I didn't do that and came home to a hot house when no one was home.

Also. It would be good to have say a power button you could press switch just gave you a 30min/1jr boost.

I've only had the system a year but I'm surprised none of these features are the norm.

The procedure for deviating from the schedule varies by model.  If you have a Learning or E model, you can manually change the target temperature, and the new target will stay in place until the next set point in the schedule.  So yes, you need to remember to turn the temperature back down, in your example.  If you have a Nest thermostat not Learning not E model, you can specify an amount of time for which the Nest will aim at the unscheduled temperature you want:   https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10120172?hl=en

However, the Nest also has a "smart" feature called Presence Sensing or Home/Away Assist, depending on what model you have and/or what interface you're using.  That feature will try to detect whether you're home or away and set the temperature accordingly.    This article might explain how to try that:   https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9245535#zippy=

Thanks. I think with a few tricks and trials I've found out a little more about how it works. Also living with other people who may switch it on during the day has not helped.
