Taco ZVC406EXp 6 zone relay - using resistors from C to W

Hello:

I have a 6 zone system that is heating only.  Boiler- baseboard heaters.  The thermostats are wired Rh and W and is 24v.  There is not a third wire.

If I use a resistor from C to W on my relay panel for each zone what would you recommend?  The transistors I have are 1000 ohm  5W

I’d like to install them as soon as possible - it’s cold!

Thanks!

I’m using the Nest Programmable Thermostat. Not the learning thermostat.

 Hello Rachel5,

It sounds like you're dealing with a heating challenge and want to make your 6-zone system more efficient.

Adding a resistor between the C (common) and W (heat control) terminals on your relay panel can be a potential solution. However, a 1000-ohm resistor might not be the ideal choice.

Typically, when you're dealing with HVAC systems, a 1000-ohm resistor might not provide enough current for proper thermostat functioning. It's more common to use lower-ohm resistors in the range of 10-100 ohms for this purpose. Moreover, the power rating of your resistor (5W) should be sufficient for this application.

Before proceeding, ensure that your system can handle this modification and consult the manufacturer's documentation. If in doubt, it might be wise to reach out to a professional HVAC technician to ensure a safe and effective modification.

Stay warm, and I hope your heating upgrade resolves the issue quickly.

Best regards,
Mark
