Temp settings don't work

Just removed a 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat and replaced with an E model.  Wiring is correct, and unit appears to be working.  Tested internet etc. and all is fine.  BUT when it comes on to cool, it doesn't.  House temp went from 78 to 81 in 30 minutes and I have no idea what I should do now.  Anyone???
