Temperature Registration

We’ve had the Nest thermostat for 3 years and every year it’s a struggle in the summer keeping our main floor cool. I have the thermostat scheduled to maintain 75 between 8am and 5pm at which time it is set to cool to 72. I’ve tried using the fun learning features but found myself more than frustrated because they don’t seem to work as I would expect. Such as the home/away; when home I don’t walk by the thermostat enough so it never registers that we are home. I have turned that feature off. We have also turned off eco mode because that also seemed to create confusion with the system. No matter what I do I am still having challenges with the cooling function turning on at the right time. For example today it was 98 out, the hallway where the thermostat is is registering at 86 when it’s clearly supposed to be at 72. I’m at a loss and after trying to figure it out for 2 summers am ready to ditch the Nest and go back to a basic programmable thermostat.

Hi TwstdFlwr,

Thanks for posting in the community! Sorry to hear about this situation with the Cooling mode not working as you expected. No worries, help is here! I'd like to ask you a few questions about your system:

  1. What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  2. What type of system do you have? (Heat Pump or conventional type)
  3. Have you tried performing a Factory Reset?
  4. Can I get the Power Readouts of your thermostat? You can get them going to Settings > Technical Info > Power

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Axel.
