Temperature is 5° off

We lost power this morning for 1/2 an hour and then it came back on. Now my Stat is reading 5° higher than it actually is. Stat is set at 73° and reads 74° and actual temperature is 69°. I've rebooted the Stat but still having the same issue. Stat is only a few years old. How do I recalibrate it?

I am not much help, I can home from being gone a week yesterday and my "current" temperature reading is now 20 degrees higher than the actual temp.  I restarted my 9 month old Nest, checked for an update, and Googled without luck.  I hope you get a helpful response.

Hello folks,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Nest Thermostat showing inaccurate room temperature readings. I know it's inconvenient when activating your system, but I'd be happy to take a look at this.

To isolate:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • When was the thermostat installed?
  • Where did you install your thermostat? (in a room and on a wall or stand)
  • Do you have other active Nest thermostats? If yes, do they show the same issue?
  • Please check the "Signal Strength" value on your actual thermostat's settings (Technical Info > Network).
  • If you have a room thermometer, take a photo of the thermometer next to the Nest Thermostat. Both the thermometer and thermostat screens should be visible in the photo and show the difference in each other’s readouts.

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,
Mark

  • Thermostat was installed late last summer (and checked/configured by an HVAC person)
  • Thermostat is on an interior wall away from any heat source and only rarely direct su nlight (minimal) - none in the winter
  • I have one Nest temperature sensor in the basement but it does not drive the thermostat, just information.  No other thermostats.
  • My device is:

    Device serial number: 09AA01AF102209DH

    Model: display 3.7

    Software: 6.2-27

  • Signal strength is fine, I looked for an upgrade, I am current.
  • Here is the readout and actual temperature.jauchec_1-1682080103128.png

The base plate is warm to touch.

Hello jauchec,

Thanks for letting me know. Big help! Let's sort this out.

  1. Safely removed the Y1 wire from the thermostat base.
  2. After removing the Y1, put the display back on the base and wait for 5 minutes to see if the temperature will eventually drop or seems to be dropping even further.
  3. Please make sure to turn off the power from the HVAC system first at the breaker box before touching the wire.

Keep me posted on how it goes.

Regards,
Mark

That did not work. The thermostat said Y1 is required for the heat pump to work.

After speaking with several people at Google, it was determined that my Nest is faulty and a new one is being sent since it was still under warranty.  I hope that solves the issue.

Hello jauchec,

Awesome! Thanks for the update. It looks like we have found a solution by replacing your thermostat. So I'm going to lock this thread for 24 hours. If you have any other concerns or questions, please feel free to create a new thread.
