Thermostat Temperature Reading 7-10 degrees too high

Hi all,

I purchased a new Nest Thermostat about a year ago and it was working fine until about 2 months ago when t started reading the temperature too high. I can't upload an image right now but I have the old thermostat sitting on top of the nest to compare and it's reading 66 degrees when the nest is reading 73. The main problem is that the difference is inconsistent so I can't just tweak the temperatures.

I've tried contacting support and went through all the steps they asked me to do like factory resetting it, disconnecting the thermostat and leaving the batteries out for 24 hours, and I've tried many different sets of batteries. Customer support said that an HVAC professional needed to come service my system before they'd consider replacing it under warranty. I'm renting so I don't really have control over that but it's been serviced in the last year.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, I don't really want to eat the cost of another thermostat.

Thanks

Hi mkd2018,

Thank you for posting in the community. I apologize that your Nest Thermostat shows incorrect temperature readouts on the app. I really appreciate the effort to troubleshoot the issue with no success. I understand how frustrating it can be. Help is here.

Before I begin, I just need to ask you a few questions for further assistance:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • When was your Nest thermostat installed?
  • Where did you install your Nest Thermostat?" (in a room and on a wall or stand)
  • Do you have another active Nest Thermostat?
  • If yes, does it show the same issue?
  • What is the brand/model of the HVAC/heat pump system?
  • Is the problem continuous or under specific circumstances?
  • Any recent changes to the HVAC system?
  • Has it been recent power outages or power issues?
  • Would you mind taking a picture of your HVAC/heat pump (if possible)?

Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Byron
