Thermostat failure, my 2year 4month old 3rd Gen. Thermostat suddenly went blank.

I carried out all the recommended procedures, no change.  I then connected the stat. to a USB power source and within a few seconds it said "reconnect me to the base".  I did so and it is now running, but for how long?

Does this mean I need a new battery? how long do the original ones last? and if needed where do I obtain a 'pucker' Nest battery?  I see many on offer but at varying prices many must be 'Chinese Knockoffs'. and from experience these do not have longevity.

Help appreciated please.
