Thermostat history

My nest thermostat shows heating on some days but shows “no usage” on other days, although I know the furnace is running as it’s 17 degrees and the temp is holding at 55. Any reason why orange bars aren’t showing up on certain days.

Hi Dgreenst,

Thanks for reaching out to us. There could be several reasons why your Nest Thermostat is not displaying orange bars (indicating heating usage) on certain days, even though you know the furnace is running.

  1. The Nest Thermostat takes into account the temperature differential between the set point and the actual temperature when determining whether heating is required. If the temperature inside your home is already close to the set point, the thermostat may not activate the heating system, resulting in no heating usage being recorded.
  2. If you have a programmed schedule or if you manually adjust the set point temperature, it's possible that the heating system is not being activated on certain days. Check your thermostat settings and schedule to ensure that the desired temperature and heating periods are properly configured.
  3. In some cases, issues with the temperature sensors or connectivity can affect the reporting of heating usage. It's worth checking the thermostat's connections, including the wiring, and ensuring that the sensors are clean and functioning properly.
  4. The Nest Thermostat may not immediately update the usage data. It's possible that the orange bars indicating heating usage will appear on the following day or during the next reporting cycle. Give it some time and observe if the usage data is updated accordingly.
  5. Occasionally, firmware or software updates can cause temporary anomalies in the reporting of heating usage. Ensure that your Nest Thermostat is running the latest firmware version available to minimize any potential issues.

Remember that the Nest Thermostat's usage reporting is based on various factors, including temperature differentials and scheduling. It's normal to see variations in the recording of heating usage depending on your specific settings and home conditions.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe

Following a service on my boiler, coincidence or not, the usage history on my app showed no usage. It has taken 5 days for the first two of those days to show the hours of usage. I live in the hope that the remaining days will also catch up soon and that this is just a hiccup!
