Thermostat issues

I am quite frustrated with the Nest thermostat. I have it set to run at the comfort setting during the day, the sleep setting at night (midnight to 6 AM). It was VERY difficult to get those setting as to work as the directions are gibberish. However, this morning the thing decided to revert to sleep mode on its own. I look at the phone, and it should be on comfort, but it's not...the settings seem to be right but it does this often.  Without me touching it, the settings just randomly change to something else.

Is there ANYWHERE that the directions are simple and easy to follow? I tried submitting a call request, but the call I got back was from a boiler room somewhere overseas with horrible background noises,  and I truly could not understand a word the woman said except "email" .. the email sent me back to FAQ's where I started.

Is there any reason at all to use this? I got it free from my electric company and and about to throw it out and go back to a regular thermostat.

Thanks

Hi @FCS659,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat isn't following the preset modes. I'd be happy to help!

Here are some steps you can try:

If these steps don't work as expected, consider performing a factory reset and setting up the thermostat again through the Google Home app.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hello,

I had called as I was having furnace work done, and when the furnace restarted, the thermostat wouldn’t recognize the internet. Happens every time there is a power issue. I had asked for a call back, dreading it as I end up with a boiler room person with awful background noise.

If course, I never received a call, Checking around, I learn that Google’s customer service is ghastly… so REALLY surprised at you emailing me. Many thanks.

First, in the online FAQ , I am told to follow certain steps to reset. The instructions are useless, I had no option anywhere that says reset under the menu… and i even tried the other thermostats in case I was following the wrong instructions . Do you have something that is accurate?  I was told to go to into the app and press the tile button… if one is already IN the app, where is the tile button? For that matter, in English, what IS a tile button?  The instructions then tell me to  in the Home app, go to Settings, then Restart. There is NO restart, so after an hour of frustration, I tried to get help… no one called.

After the summer is over, I will throw this away as it is very hard to use, and support is virtually non-existent, My last attempt left me furious as I had a woman yelling in a room of what seemed to be a thousand screaming people. I politely explain that I had a legitimate hearing issue, and asked her to speak loud and slowly. She did neither. .....and finally said she would send a link… it was the exact same directions that were bogus the first time.

I am guessing that a) you have never tried to call someone, and b0 have never owned one of these thing to see how poorly designed it it. It should be taken off of the market until they can may it simple.

Appreciate your reply, but what you sent is basically gibberish to someone unfamiliar with very complicated programs and rather advanced technical knowledge.  Google can’t even write simple instructions.  I also found it a riot that I couldn't reply easily to your email....I have to switch programs, hunt for the community website, hunt for passwords to sign in , and THEN i can reply. In 2024, that is absurd. One click is all it should be... "reply"
