Thermostat keeps changing modes

The thermostat arbitrarily switches to heat mode from cooling mode.  We have had this thermostat for a couple of years with no issues.  Now, we notice it starts getting warm in our home and when we check, the thermostat has switched to heat mode.  This will be a serious problem as we leave our home in FL for an extended period during the very hot summer months.  Anyone have this problem or know what the issue may be.

The same thing happened to me! It was preventing the furnace from running for any duration.

I read that it might help if you lock the thermostat so the temp can't be changed.  I did that this morning and will see if that helps.  I still have 2 weeks before I leave my home for the summer.

Thanks for sharing this here in the Google Nest Community.

@SandyL, this is a great way to prevent someone from changing the temperature and any settings on your Nest thermostat. 

Also, the Nest thermostat modes can automatically switch between modes, but you can manually set the mode you want too.
