Thermostat wiring

Removed my current thermostat to install new Nest Thermostat and discovered I have 2 wires  (Red and White) that connect the thermostat to the heater. Hooked up nest thermostat and received message that 3 wires not compatible.  How do I make a 2 wire system work on Nest thermostat?

To check your system's compatibility with the Nest Thermostat, can you share with us a photo of your old thermostat and your current thermostat's wiring set up? Also, what message code do you receive after the installation? Can you get its power readings in the technical information?
