Thermostats still going to Eco mode after disabling all smart features

I have three thermostats (all gen 3), suddenly this week they revert to Eco all on their own. I have gone into the Nest app, the Google Home app and the device itself and checked that Home/Away is disabled, Nest Aware if off. I've cleared all schedules. Phone location is off for all family members.

It is happening to all three, so doesn't seem like a device "reset" kind of thing.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi Film,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community! I understand that your three Google Nest Learning Thermostats (3rd gen) are suddenly reverting to Eco mode even though you disabled the smart features. I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting this issue. Don't worry, I can definitely help you with this!

To better investigate this situation, I’d like to ask for the following information:

  • When did you install the devices?
  • Do you notice any intervals or specific patterns between these strange behaviors?
  • When the thermostat goes into the Eco mode, have you noticed if it changes for cooling or heating?

In the meantime, I’d suggest the following steps:

  • Check the Energy History and please share a screenshot of these unexpected temperature changes for Eco mode. For reference, you can check out this article: Thermostat Energy History.
  • Please double-check if you followed the right steps to disable Eco mode in the Nest app. As a tip, if your thermostat controls heating and cooling, you will see ‘Heat to’ and ‘Cool to’. Then, ensure that once you drag the slider for those options you see ‘Off’ for both. For reference, check this article: Learn about Eco Temperatures and how to change settings.
  • To better isolate the issue, please remove the thermostat from presence sensing in the Google Home app and also ensure phone location is off for your own phone in the Nest app. For guided instructions, refer to these articles: Change presence-based automations settings and Change Home/Away Assist settings.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
