Similar issue. I had a low battery message. I replaced batteries with new fresh ones. Still low battery message. Tried factory reset. Now stuck because app won’t complete setup due to batteries not detected in thermostat. Very frustrating. Looking at a high of 91 in Phoenix today. This will get uncomfortable quickly.

Hi MrSteve,

Thank you so much for posting. I understand that your Nest Thermostat is having trouble detecting the new batteries, even after a factory reset. No worries. I’m more than glad to help.

  • Try to remove the batteries from the thermostat for about 5 minutes.
  • Insert the 2 new AAA alkaline batteries.
  • Push the thermostat display back onto the base until it clicks into place.
  • Before setting it up again, the thermostat, make sure to remove this device from the Google Home app.

Note: It’s important to use only high-quality 1.5 V AAA alkaline batteries from a known manufacturer.
