I have 3 nest thermostats for 3 separate zones in my home. All 3 are heated with hot water radiators. I have true radiant turned on with 3-5 hours of preheat allowed. However, all 3 only turn on around 15 minutes early, which is nowhere NEAR early enough. It needs to be more like 2-3 hours early. It seems that there are a lot of problems with true radiant. What is the deal? These thermostats are expensive.

Hi Malvoe1,
Thanks for reaching out! I can understand your situation with the True Radiant feature on your Nest Thermostats, especially given the investment in such devices. It's indeed essential for preheating to align with your preferences.
To troubleshoot this issue, you might want to check a few things.
Let us know how it goes.
Best regards,

1. Yes, they do.
2. They are.
3. Does the preheat function need to be enabled to allow for the true radiant to work?

Hi there,
Thanks for confirming. The preheat function on the Nest Thermostat needs to be enabled for True Radiant to work effectively. True Radiant is a feature that aims to ensure your home reaches the desired temperature at the scheduled time by factoring in the heating system's performance and the thermal characteristics of your home. By enabling the preheat function, the thermostat can start heating in advance to reach the target temperature at the scheduled time, optimizing comfort and energy efficiency. If the preheat function is disabled, True Radiant may not function as intended, and the system might not start heating early enough to achieve the desired temperature at the scheduled time.
Feel free to ask if you have more questions.
Regards,
Mark

OK, that seems to have been the problem. It seems strange that those are two different settings and appear in two different places. I wonder if that would solve the issue for others who have complained about True Radiant not working.

Hello Malvoe1,
Thanks for pointing that out! I completely understand your perspective. It does seem a bit counterintuitive for those settings to be in separate places. You can check out the True Radiant article for more information, and let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Mark
