True radiant in ready mode not learning.

I just installed a 3rd gen learning thermostat. The true radiant feature is not working. My system is constantly over shooting the set temperature by 2 to 3 degrees. I have reset the unit twice so far. The auto scheduling is the only feature that says it’s learning. My old cheap Honeywell thermostat ran the boiler between 10 to 18 minutes at most. The nest learning thermostat is running the boiler 35 to 45 minutes. thermostat gets to the target temperature and just keeps on running excessively. Is there some type of bug with this particular feature since I’ve seen a few different threads complaining about the same problem. Can someone please help me with this. I have called customer service a few times, and not been able to get anybody who is knowledgeable enough on the true radiant feature.

Hello Joeyb1156 ,

I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you with the True Radiant feature. I'd love to know more about this.

To isolate:

  • Did you create a schedule setpoint that is lower than the setpoint the thermostat is attempting to reach?
  • When did the pre-heating kick in (exact time)? When is the next scheduled setpoint?
  • Does pre-heating activate too early on some days but not others?
  • Could you please share us a screenshot or photos of the schedule showing all set points?

I'll look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Mark

Yes, I did create a schedule. I also initially let the thermostat learn using the auto-schedule feature. As far as the pre-heat goes, it has never turned on to preheated the system when the duration has been set. My bigger concern is the fact that it’s overheating my house, and has never learned when to turn the boiler off in relation to the setpoint. It consistently overheats my house 2° to 3°. when there is a normal call for heat, the thermostat is kicking on the boiler and running it for about 15 to 18 minutes to reach the target temperature. Once at the target temperature it runs another 15 to 18 minutes. This is overheating my house. The true radiant feature has never gone into on/learning mode. It is stuck in on/ready mode. I’ve also observed that the time-to-temperature feature does not work correctly as well. It gives the wrong estimated heat time, it too says, ready and never goes into a learning mode. The only two features I could get to go into learning mode are the auto-schedule, and the sunblock. I have reset the thermostat numerous times. I also went out and bought  another 3gen learning thermostat. That one too behaves the exact same way, and will not set the true radiant feature or the time-to-temp into learning modes. And it too overheat the house, the exact same way. I have done extensive research and have found there are numerous complaints about this issues all over the Internet, including other threads in this exact forum. I believe that this is a serious software issue. Out of curiosity, do you have any way of escalating this up to an engineering level?
