After some research I've figured out that my heating system doesn't automatically turn on the fan when it turns on the heat. It expects the thermostat to turn on the fan as well as the heat. My Google Nest Learning Thermostat doesn't do that. So while the furnace is sending hot water to the air handler, nothing is being blown to the house.
If I set the Nest to always run the fan, it "solves" the problem... at least insofar as it will distribute the hot air when the heat is on, but it comes with the downside that the fan is always on.
I saw a response on here that said that there was a way to fix this in the Pro Setup and that you could tell the Nest 3 things about your system. 1) what type i.e. oil, gas, etc 2) type of distribution i.e., radiator, forced air, etc. and 3) whether to activate the fan or not.
I followed those steps, but I don't see the option to tell it to active the fan or not. Is this something that is no longer available? Or do I have to do something to enable that setting to show up?

So I think that this option may only be available if you enter in a Google Pro number? Which obviously I don't have. Either I just resign myself to always having the blower running (which is going to be a lot of electricity, wear on the system, more filters to replace) or to pay for a google nest installer to come out and look at this. Which is going to cost $150. And I think all they're going to do is key in a google pro number and then they'll have access to a special menu where they can select "activate fan". That seems like a lot to pay for just changing one setting in a menu.

Hello Thunkd,
I understand your frustration with the Nest Thermostat and the fan activation issue. It can be quite bothersome to have the fan running constantly, leading to increased electricity usage and wear on the system.
While it's true that certain advanced settings may be accessible only with a Nest Pro, it's advisable to exhaust all available options before considering a professional installer, especially if it involves a significant cost for a seemingly straightforward adjustment. Have you had a chance to set the fan schedule automatically?
I hope you find a solution soon and can enjoy a comfortable and efficient heating system without unnecessary fan operation.
Best regards,
Mark
