Have situation where two secure rooms on the same HVAC Heat Pump need to have thermostats in the rooms, but control the single HVAC Heat Pump.
Would like one of the thermostats to be like a normal installation, hardwired to the HVAC Heat Pump, and be the "Master", and the second thermostat be like a clone or a slave to the first thermostat, with just a connection to power (C-Wire, or individual transformer).
The second thermostat would ideally behave like a temperature sensor with a display, and would mirror the temperature controls and current mode (cool, heat, aux heat, auto, off) on the master thermostat. Basically the second thermostat would function like the Nest App regarding displaying and changing the temperature on the first thermostat. The thermostats would not have to talk directly to each other, but I would suspect they would communicate through the Google Nest servers in the cloud.
Would be nice if this was as simple as having a "Mode" setting for a thermostat where is could be configured as a "Cloned thermostat" with a "enable temperature sensor" option in case the cloned thermostat should not do temperature averaging.

Part of the trouble with finding information about this is getting the correct terminology. Another way to describe what I am looking for would be to "Sync" two or more thermostats so that the target temperature settings and mode (cool, heat, aux heat, auto, off) are the same between the synced thermostats. The actual temperature would be averaged.
This is really a software feature, and not really a hardware limitation because the master would have standard wiring, and the second thermostat would just need to have power and a WiFi connection. If the connection was not working, the master thermostat would just continue with it's current program until the WiFi connection between the two thermostats or the Google Nest servers was reestablished.

Hi lmcquidd,
We hear you. Typically, each thermostat is designed to independently control the HVAC system it is connected to. While some smart thermostats offer multi-zone capabilities, they usually require separate HVAC systems or zone control panels to achieve that functionality. Currently, only installing Nest Temperature Sensor could give you the function of "mirroring the temperature controls and current mode" with your Nest Thermostat without a display. Please be assured that our product team is working non-stop with different partners to bring the best features to our Google Nest devices. So, please let our product team know about it by sending feedback.
Let us know if you have any other questions.
Best,
Zoe
