No matter what I try, I can't add the Nest Learning Thermostat to Google Home. It works fine in the Nest app but I want to control it with the Google Assistant. I'm facing the same issue that's discussed here but none of the suggested solutions worked and the topic was closed.

I am on the same WIFI network as my thermostat and am able to control it with the nest app, but it does not show up in Google Home and when I try to manually add it by scanning the QR code, I receive the error mentioned in the title. If I try with the code provided under the QR code, it requests the 4 last numbers of the serial number but does not provide a field or keyboard to enter them. This is clearly a bug in the process and I'm amazed this is still not resolved.

I even tried setting a static IP on my phone with Google DNS, gave my router a factory reset and also set it to use Google DNS but the issue remains. Tried another phone from a different brand but got the exact same issues. Removed all my homes from Google Home, tried the process of adding new ones from the Nest app and the Homes are added but the Nest Thermostat never shows up. I was able to add my Roborock without any issues by linking my Mi Account so the issue is clearly with the Nest Thermostat only.

@Larga

You cannot separately add the Nest Learning Thermostat to the Google Home app. When you install it in the Google Nest app, it is supposed to AUTOMATICALLY appear in the Google Home app, provided you have assigned the thermostat to a "room" in the Google Nest app and are accessing both apps with the same Google Account and are accessing the same Google Nest "home/structure".

In recent months, numerous customers in this forum have reported this is not happening.

Many customers have done the following to get it to work: In the Google Nest app, create a temporary second Google Nest "home/structure". In the Google Home app, go to that temporary, empty Google Nest "home/structure" and delete it. This seems to force the 2 apps to sync and the thermostat appears.

Wow, I thought I had already done that but apparently I must have missed a crucial step. I already had 2 'homes' in the Nest app and Google Home, so I just added the thermostat to a 'room' in the Nest app, switched to the Google Home app and deleted the other 'home'. This immediately made the thermostat show up in the other, remaining 'home'.

However, I am still unable to see it in my Assistant devices that can be controlled (my Mi Home device does show there). When I try to add the thermostat there, I get the same wizard and issues, but after saying 'Hey Google, synchronize my devices I am able to communicate with it it seems. I can add it to the 'routines' now and that way I am able to control it.

Thank you!

I was also having a similar issue. I was in the process of following MPLSCustomer's advice above and changed the room name for the thermostat within the nest app. This triggered the Home app to recognise the thermostat before I had got to the point of deleting the temporary home structure.

Thank you for your help with this.

What a crazy, unhelpful process. I was starting to think that I had been conned into thinking that same brand devices should work together.
