I have a third generation nest thermostat. It has battery issues so I ordered the Amazon Google nest thermostat I was wondering can I use the existing base from my thermostat with the new one? should you charge your new thermostat before putting it on the wall?

Any 3rd Gen thermostat will fit on any 3rd Gen base.
Just plug it onto the base, and should be fine no need to charge.

Nope it won’t work. My old one was a nest thermostat. This new one is a Google thermostat. I’m guessing that’s what makes the difference because it wouldn’t recognize anything on the old base. It just showed that you need to plug it in screen.

Just to confirm, are you saying you have a 3rd generation Nest thermostat, and you want to fit a Google 3rd generation display into the Next 3rd generation base?
The way to prove both bases are the same, is the spirit level is blue. Next 3rd Gen is blue, and Google 3rd Gen is blue.
Should that question be yes, then yes they will.

Old nest thermostat battery went dead pulled it off the base put the new Google on the old base and what came up on the screen was attach it to its base installed. New base work just fine. would not work on the old base

Which says your base is faulty

I have two Heat & Air systems, both of which had the older third generation nest thermostats I was using my good thermostat on both bases work just fine. A Google nest will not work on an old nest backing plate.

I will ask a silly question as you never stated!!
Are you USA?????

Yes I am.

Another example of a question that does not state the location!
There are other types of base plates in other countries, your one is different in the USA.
Mention USA next time, then you might get an answer for your country.

Has nothing to do with location Google nest thermostat will not work on a Original nest thermostat base. I could be standing on the Moon and it wouldn’t work.

Hello everyone,
I'm jumping in to make sure everything is covered here.
I appreciate your help here, @Frustratedddd.
@Jim007z, to confirm, which type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Regarding your question about using the existing base from your third-generation Nest Thermostat, it should be possible as long as the sane version. As for charging your new thermostat before installation, it's generally not necessary. Nest Thermostats are designed to be powered by the HVAC system and have an internal battery that charges when connected to the base.
Best of luck with your new thermostat installation! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Warm regards,
Mark

@Jim007z
Well that’s where you are wrong, as ALL UK 3rd generation bases work. The Nest Base works perfectly with a Google display, and the Google base works perfectly well with the Nest display.
Which clearly shows you have not understood the meaning of location!
